St. Georg is an Evangelical Lutheran parish church in Steinhagen - Brockhagen in East Westphalia in the Gütersloh district . Church and congregation belong to the Halle parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .
The hall church consists of plastered natural stone with mighty buttresses. The corner blocks were built with visible sandstone. The west tower, designated 1568, has four floors and is decorated with structural elements of the Weser Renaissance in the area of the sound openings for the bells . The pointed helmet protrudes on profiled sandstone studs and has four roof houses for the tower clock.
In the north of the church there is an external staircase that allows its own access to the gallery of the Patthorster baron family. It was built in 1754 by Ludolph von Closter.
The community extends over 28.9 km² and has 2,254 believers (as of 2009).
history
In 1568 the community Brockhagen, which previously belonged to the church in Halle, became independent. In the course of independence, the previous chapel was replaced by a church.
Between 1752 and 1754 a new nave was added to the church.
Furnishing
The pulpit of the church dates from the 18th century. The altar is dated 1675 and has two altar paintings (oil on wood) depicting the Last Supper and the Resurrection of Jesus . The Steinmeier organ dates from 1968, has 17 registers and was last cleaned and overhauled in 2018.
