St. Hedwig (Freden)

The Church of St. Hedwig was the Catholic church in Freden , a municipality in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony . Most recently the church belonged to the parish of the Birth of Mary in Winzenburg , in the Alfeld-Detfurth dean's office of the Hildesheim diocese . The church, named after St. Hedwig von Andechs , was located at Sonnenbergstrasse 17 (corner of Zum Hohen Rott). Today the nearest Catholic church is in Winzenburg, three kilometers away.

history

On January 23, 1971, the church was consecrated by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen . Before that, Catholic services were held in Freden in the Protestant St. Laurentius Church in Klein Freden.

On February 19, 2005, the church was profaned by Cathedral Chapter Adolf Pohner. The property and church were sold and residential houses are to be built on the property. The church building was dismantled and rebuilt as the Romanian Greek Catholic Church in Petrosani, Romania .

Architecture and equipment

The church was built as a prefabricated church and was around 124 meters above sea level . After the profanation, some of the furnishings came to the Church of the Birth of Mary in Winzenburg. The organ was to be sold to the Protestant St. Gertrud parish in Jerze .
