St. Hippolyt and St. Erhard (Algund)
The church of St. Hippolyt and St. Erhard in Algund in South Tyrol was the parish church of the place until 1977 . In 1979, the district was in the village standing church as a historical monument.
The parish church was mentioned in 1178 as Marienkirche. From this previous Romanesque building, two reliefs with mythical creatures, a unicorn and a griffin , have survived. After enlarging and building the tower, the church was consecrated again in 1446. Around 1500 the tower was raised by two floors. From 1618 to 1628, the nave was extended and vaulted by Francesco Lucchese.
The main altar and both side altars were created by Josef Wassler from 1871 to 1876. The medallions on the triumphal arch are by Cassian Dapoz , as is the ceiling painting with a representation of Moses with the brazen serpent .
Mathias Mauracher built the organ with its free-standing console in 1842.
