Josef Waßler
Josef Waßler (born February 14, 1841 in Lana ; † July 23, 1908 in Meran ) was a picture carver and cabinet maker from Tyrol. He created 32 altars in neo-Gothic style , many of which are listed buildings.
Life
After compulsory school, Josef Waßler attended the Benedictine grammar school in Merano for two years , after which he learned drawing and carving for four years from Franz Xaver Pendl . From 1861 he worked as a journeyman in the Mayer'sche Hofkunstanstalt in Munich. At that time he was receiving lessons from Josef Knabl . At the beginning of the 1860s Waßler went to Cologne and worked under Peter Fuchs at Cologne Cathedral , where he learned how to work stone. In 1867 he settled in Lana, in 1876 he moved his workshop to Merano.
Waßler was a member of the Munich Association for Christian Art .
