St. Jakobi (Dannigkow)
Sankt Jakobi is the Protestant church in Dannigkow , a district of Gommern in Saxony-Anhalt .
history
The church, built in the 12th century, is located north of Friedrichstrasse. The church building was erected from rubble stones as a towerless hall building in late Romanesque style. Originally rectangular, the building was later extended to the east and received a rounded wall. The windows have also been enlarged. In 1677 a roof turret made of half-timbered was placed over the west facade , which had to be removed again at the end of the 1970s due to dilapidation. A metal bell cage was set up in the front garden to replace the only bell.
Furnishing
The interior of the church is closed by a flat ceiling, with galleries on the north and west sides . A wooden altarpiece from the 17th century is worth mentioning as a valuable inventory item . It contains a copy of a painting from the 16th century, painted in 1823, of the crucifixion of Jesus against a city and landscape backdrop. The organ was built in 1853 for the Burg Gommern prison and acquired by the Dannigkow parish in 1877.
