St. Johann Baptist

St. Johann Baptist is an Evangelical Lutheran church named after John the Baptist in Ullstadt ( Dekanat Neustadt an der Aisch ).

Parish

Originally St. Johann Baptist was a branch church of St. Michael in Herbolzheim . It was elevated to a parish church in 1340, to which the chapels St. Marien and St. Leonhard in Ezelheim belonged. These were separated from St. Johann Baptist in 1349. Originally, the Lords of Seckendorff had church patronage . With their conversion to the teaching of Martin Luther in 1522, Ullstadt became Protestant. In 1662 the patronage passed to the Catholic Lords of Frankenstein , who had acquired the Ullstadt manor and its possessions.

Since 1957 St. Johann Baptist is no longer an independent parish, but part of the parish of Langenfeld (originally St. Nikolaus, since the new building in 1971/73 Jesus Christ Church ). In 1986 the parish had 280 members.

Church building

The original parish church, built in the 14th century, consisted only of a choir tower. In the course of the renovation in the 15th century, a five-axis nave with a single-nave hall was added and the choir tower was demolished at the height of the nave, so that only the chancel with a ribbed vault was left, and a west tower was built. In 1492 a vestibule was added on the north side. In 1601, the tower was extended by a bell-shaped beam and an eight-sided, slate-covered pyramid roof in the Gothic style - a so-called Julius helmet .

The cemetery originally located directly at the church was laid out in another location in 1594.

Furnishing

The interior decoration (altar, pulpit, baptismal font, paintings and stucco paneling) was replaced in the 1720s. The first organ from 1688 was replaced in 1713. Today's organ from 1857 was created by Augustin Ferdinand Bittner jun. from Nuremberg .
