St. John with bell tower

St. Johannes is a Catholic church consecrated to the Evangelist Johannes in the Wiesbaden district of Rambach . The church belongs to the Catholic parish of St. Birgit.

history

In March 1954, Catholics from Wiesbaden-Rambach founded a chapel building association to build their own Catholic church building in Rambach. Wiesbaden-Rambach ecclesiastically belongs to the parish in Sonnenberg, which is why a building plot that was bought after the association was founded was transferred to the Sacred Heart congregation in Sonnenberg. The foundation stone was laid on September 23, 1962 .

The church was built from reinforced concrete and limestone in the typical 1960s style. In 1964 a free-standing, 18-meter-high bell tower was built, which was exclusively financed by donations. A year earlier, on March 24, 1963, the consecration of bells took place. The first Holy Mass was celebrated on June 9, 1963 . In 1974 an organ with six registers and 25 pipes was installed. The St. Johannes Church has been a listed building since 2004.

It is no longer possible for the Limburg diocese to financially support the St. Johannes Church, which is why the Friends of St. Johannes Rambach eV was founded in July 2007 . In 2020, consideration was given to selling the church to the Wiesbaden section of the German Alpine Club , which would like to set up its office there.

Attractions

The cloister in the interior comes from the studio of the Frankfurt architect Ludwig Becker . The square tabernacle was made in the goldsmith's workshop of the Rüdesheim Abbey of St. Hildegard .
