St. Johannes Baptista (hamlet)
St. Johannes Baptista is a Loreto chapel in the Weiler district of the Osterberg community in the Neu-Ulm district in Bavaria. It is assigned to the parish of St. Maria in Osterberg.
history
Already in the Middle Ages there was a chapel dedicated to John the Baptist on the rising terrain . In 1674, today's chapel was built as the Loreto chapel and enlarged in 1698.
architecture
The small hall church has a barrel vault. The daylight only falls through a small window in the west gable . A roof turret with an octagon and onion dome sits above the east gable . The south portal has a small aedicular frame . The strongly profiled and color-contrasting gable and eaves cornices are striking .
Interior decoration
Much of the interior is no longer there. It was lost over time. The chapel was increasingly cleared during the ongoing renovations. Originally the room was divided into three parts, a prayer room for the pilgrims, a room for the miraculous image , then the so-called kitchen of Mary in the easternmost room. Paintings on the walls imitated red bricks, and there were frescoes with figures of angels. Partition walls and grilles with two doors provided a structure.
