history

Look into the choir

A church in Hofheim is mentioned for the first time in the 14th century. The current church was consecrated in 1465. From 1491 church care was provided by the Habach Augustinian canons, who extended the building in 1781. The church was painted five times, the last time with the current ceiling paintings by Bradl, 1918/19.

description

The Hans Degler Crescent Moon Madonna

The church has a long nave, a richly structured tower with a gable roof and a retracted choir.
Inside the nave is flat vaulted, the ceiling frescoes depict the life of St. John the Baptist, the Prophets and Adam and Eve. The altars come from the early phase (high altar) and the late phase (side altars) of the late Baroque. The high altar in the richly decorated choir from 1694 was created by Martin Streicher. The curved gallery is equipped with fruit hangers and two stations of the cross.
The most valuable piece of equipment in the church is a large crescent moon Madonna, which was made by the important Weilheim sculptor Hans Degler in 1610. This sculpture, which came to Hofheim in a roundabout way, was formerly in the Pollingen parish church, which was demolished in 1803 .
