history

Prince-Bishop's hunting lodge and today's rectory in Hövelhof

In 1706 Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht , Bishop of Paderborn and Münster , had the first parish church of Hövelhof built in front of the prince-bishop's hunting lodge. From old reports it can be seen that the church had 12 pews on each side and served as a parish church for 80 years.

In 1786 the first service was celebrated in the second parish church, which took four years to build. Until 1928 the Catholic community Hövelhof celebrated services in this church.

Since after 140 years this church was too small for the growing congregation and, moreover, had also become dilapidated, the congregation moved to an emergency church in the Epping hall and the construction of a new parish church began. The first service was celebrated in this church on August 15, 1929. On 3 March 1934 the successes Consecration of the Church and in December 1961, the church got a new organ.

In the 1970s the parish church was again too small. At first they only wanted to expand the existing church, but it was determined in the planning that only the church tower could be preserved. On April 18, 1977, another emergency church was set up in the Epping room. In the following, the old church was demolished and the steeple was extensively renovated. On September 15, 1979, the new building was completed and the church was consecrated by Paderborn Archbishop Johannes Joachim Degenhardt .
