St. John the Baptist (Gentingen)
St. John the Baptist is a Roman Catholic branch church in the local community of Gentingen in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is located directly on the bank of the Our .
history
The place and church were mentioned for the first time in a letter of protection that Pope Alexander II issued in 1069 for the Echternach Abbey . The oldest surviving part of St. Johannes is the Romanesque choir tower from the 12th century . The nave was changed during a renovation in 1710. A sacristy was added to the east of the tower in the 19th century .
The nave is 5.60 m wide and 7.5 m long, the square choir in the tower basement is 3.50 m wide and 3.70 m deep. The choir is barrel vaulted and decorated inside with high round arched blind arcades.
