St. Josef Church Daisbach (Aarbergen) (2018).

The parish church of St. Josef is the Catholic village church of Daisbach (Taunus). It is the only surviving Catholic half-timbered church in Hesse and one of the two half-timbered churches in the district (next to Hohenstein-Born).

The building is a threefold half-timbered building. The building history of the church can be seen in the individual building elements. The oldest part of the house is the two-story rectory, which is closed off by a steep pitched roof . It was possibly built before 1670 as the home of the widow Cormberg. When in 1677 the Münster treasurer Freiherr von Galen acquired the rule in Daisbach, he set up a stately home in the building for his Catholic bailiff . From 1690 onwards, the Franciscans of Limburg Abbey celebrated Catholic services there again.

In 1709 the original two-story house was supplemented on its east side by a rectangular house chapel with a mansard roof. The annex initially remained inconspicuous, as the practice of Catholic ceremonies was not tolerated. It was not until 1739 that a three-sided closed choir was added to the chapel and a roof turret was added to replace a bell tower. The half-timbered structure with characteristics of the respective construction period shows isolated ornamental forms and subsequent changes.

The original furnishings of the church have not been preserved. The interior got its present appearance mainly in the course of renovations in 1963 and 1975. The choir has been adorned since 1950 by a winged altar originally from Elz , created around 1855 in neo -Gothic style by the sculptor Weis (Frankfurt). It is flanked by two wooden figures showing the patron saint Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary on carved pedestals (1894).

Due to its special importance as the only surviving Catholic half-timbered church in Hesse and an old Catholic church in the Protestant area, the church is a listed building .
