A St. Anna-Kluskapelle in Ostenland is mentioned for the first time around 1480 . It is believed that a service was celebrated in the chapel twice a year. The churches in Delbrück and Lippling were visited for the regular Sunday services. The chapel was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and rebuilt in 1650.

On January 13, 1769, Prince-Bishop Wilhelm Anton von der Asseburg approved that Sunday services could be held in the chapel for the next five years. From 1820 the permit was confirmed every 5 years. The services were initially held by Jesuits from Paderborn and Franciscans from Bielefeld.

In 1856 the construction of the chapel began according to plans by Arnold Güldenpfennig . The costs amounted to 6,000 thalers, with 5,000 thalers credit being taken out from the Kreissparkasse. End of 1857, the construction was completed and was on 23 December of the year by the dean and pastor Weidenreich consecrated to be. The church received the patronage of St. Joseph .

On April 20, 1870, Johann Wittmund became the first independent vicar in Ostenland. He was allowed to read four holy masses a week and to keep the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle .

In 1901 the church received three bells from Humpert in Brilon for 1,350 marks. The bell from 1869 was sold to Westerwiehe. In 1905 Ostenland received a cemetery and a church library. On January 1, 1911, the community was raised to a branch community with its own asset management and corporate rights.

Parish vicar Hubert Fuest came to Ostenland in April 1915 and collected 60,000 marks by 1919 for the construction of a new church, which began in 1920 and was completed in 1922. Pastor Diekhoff from Delbrück inaugurated it on May 31, 1922.

The roof was badly damaged in a storm in 1931 and the church was given a copper roof above the choir. At the same time, a new bell, a new tower clock and ten new windows were installed.

Until the Second World War, the community made several unsuccessful attempts to detach itself from the main community and become independent. After the end of the war, the elevation to the parish was approved. On January 1st, 1950, Anton Kerkmann was introduced by the dean in Stukenbrock as the first pastor in Ostenland.

In 1960 the parsonage and farm buildings were torn down and rebuilt for 78,000 DM. The rectory was consecrated on December 4th of that year. In 1962, a comprehensive church renovation began, which was completed in 1964. On March 26, 1966, Auxiliary Bishop Paul Nordhues consecrated a new organ and the main altar. In addition, the youth home was completed. In 1969 the community received a cemetery chapel.
