St. Katharina , occasionally also Kathreinenkapelle, is a Roman Catholic branch church in the Honzrath district of the Saarland community of Beckingen . It is a listed monument as a single monument.
history
The small church was first mentioned in a document in 1569. In 1677 it was destroyed in the course of the Dutch War of Louis XIV. It was rebuilt in 1693. In 1863 the church was rebuilt. In 2001 it was restored on the outside and equipped with a staircase suitable for the disabled.
architecture
The small hall church is closed off by a three-sided choir. An ocular with a star motif sits in its front , and narrow arched windows on the side walls. In the long sides of the church there are three larger arched windows. On the west side of the hall there is a defiant tower over a square floor plan with a pyramid roof . The tower is divided by a cornice. A small ocular sits above the unadorned arched portal.
Furnishing
The high altar comes from an immigrant Tyrolean wood carver and was made in the 17th century. St. Catherine is a large altar sculpture above the tabernacle. The antependium with the Agnus Dei motif dates from the 19th century. Two lead glass windows show representations of Our Lady and St. Josef, another St. Barbara. In the choir there is a modern ambo and a sandstone altar with a nun's head framing, which is continued in a suggested choir screen.
