The St. Laurentius Church is the branch church of the Roman Catholic parish St. Peter and Paul Eberswalde in Wriezen in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg and is located north of the old town on the corner of Freienwalder Strasse and August-Ellinger-Strasse. Together with the pastoral care center in Wriezen, it belongs to the Deanery Eberswalde. The church with the rectory is a listed building.

history

The church was built from 1912 to 1913 according to a design by Darmstadt architect Theodor Sohms in a style combination of elements from Romanesque , Gothic , Art Nouveau and Heimatstil . The patronage was taken over by the medieval church of St. Lorenz, which had served the Catholic community as a place of worship since 1846 and was demolished in 1919. During the Second World War in 1945 the church was damaged and rebuilt after the war.

description

The church is located at the corner of Freienwalder Strasse and August-Ellinger-Strasse in a north-east-south-west direction. It is a three-aisled basilica under a gable roof with a retracted choir . A sacristy adjoins the choir on August-Ellinger-Strasse . The tower is lined with half-height side towers. From it an L-shaped connecting building goes north-west to the rectory.

The ceiling of the church is a coffered wood barrel vault . The vault is supported by concrete arches. In the triumphal beam to the choir there is a crucifixion group from the old St. Lorenz Church. The organ on a gallery was built in 1913 by the organ builder Paul Völkner . A remnant of the original painting has been preserved in the baptistery.

The rectory belonging to the church is a two-storey building with a gable roof. There is a dwarf house facing Freienwalder Strasse . The first and second floors are separated by a cornice .
