St. Leonhard in Wall

The Roman Catholic branch church of St. Leonhard is located in the Wall district of the Wolfsegg community in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg ( Bavaria ).

history

The church was built in the Romanesque style around 1200. Thanks to the efforts of the residents of Wall and Käfersdorf, the church was saved from deterioration.

Structure and equipment

The church is a hall structure with drawn apse , a leading into the church round arch portal and a roof turret with onion dome with a sheet metal cover. The high altar has four pillars; the altar figure is St. Leonhard with his typical attribute of chains (as a sign of the liberation of prisoners and not - as wrongly assumed - with cattle chains) and the crook . On the gallery there is a carved phoenix symbolizing the resurrection . The equipment includes further pictures (e.g. Mary as Queen of Heaven with Jesus, the Holy Family on the run) and a crucified Christ on the cross.

A small cemetery for the residents of Wall, Käfersdorf and Hohenwarth, which is still in use today and is fenced in by a stone wall, belongs to the church . The ensemble also has a modern-day mortuary hall. A fountain with a stone trough shows the year 1870.
