St. Lucia is a suburb of Brisbane , the capital of the Australian state of Queensland, on the Brisbane River . As a quiet suburb, St. Lucia is about 4 kilometers southwest of the center (CBD) in the local administrative area (LGA) Brisbane City and offers good transport connections to the city center by bus and ferry ( City Cat ). Because of its proximity to the main University of Queensland (UQ) campus , there are many students living there.

Sugar cane plantations were established in St. Lucia in the 1860s. The district got its name from William Wilson, who bought one of the plantations in the 1880s and made it usable as a residential area. Wilson was born in the island state of St. Lucia and was reminded of his homeland by the sugar cane plantations in Brisbane, so he named the district after his country of birth.

St. Lucia can be reached from the western districts and the city center. The lines end at the University of Queensland . There is also a NightLink service . On Friday and Saturday nights, the buses are equipped with security personnel.
