The Protestant Church of St. Magdalenen is in the municipality of Witzleben in the Ilm district in Thuringia .

history

The village church was built at the end of the 12th century . It was only built as a tower , which was mainly used as a baptistery . The nave could be built in the 13th century . Since the 15th century Gothic windows and a decorated portal that on the south side of worship .

During the Thirty Years War , the church building and the tower suffered great damage from warfare. As early as 1647–1649, the faithful and the citizens were able to restore the church.

In 1843 August Witzmann from Stadtilm built the organ with 19 stops . The prospect pipes had to be delivered for the First World War and were replaced by zinc pipes after the war. All the rest of the pipework is original.

In 1927 the entrance portal was moved to the west side of the new tower. The nave was restored in 1936 and a new font was purchased. The last renovation took place in 1970.

From 2013 to 2014 the organ was restored and made playable again.
