history
The municipality of St. Margareta is the oldest in the former County of Rietberg . The exact date is unknown, but it is believed that the parish has existed for over 800 years. It was raised to an independent parish in 1257. Before that it belonged to the parish of St. Aegidius in Wiedenbrück . From here the other parishes in the county were founded.
In 1803 the old church tower collapsed. This was rebuilt and the church added two aisles. In 1955 the parish built the branch church Herz Jesu in the Rietberg district of Druffel . The church was last renovated in 2000.
The church has a Sauer organ (21 stops), which was rebuilt in 1975 by the local organ building company Speith and given a new case. In 2012 the instrument was cleaned again by Sauer and two bellows were replaced.
