The Protestant St. Margaret Church in Iptingen , a district of Wiernsheim in Enz in Baden-Württemberg , is resulting in the Staufer period in 1100 fortified church . The church tower is still the old castle today.

history

Knight Ulrich von Ubetingen bequeathed his castle to Maulbronn Monastery in 1194 , which elevated the castle chapel to a parish church . Ulrich is said to have died after his stay in the monastery during the 4th crusade (1202/04). The late Romanesque St. Stephen's Church was added directly to the castle tower . The old roof approach is clearly visible in the attic of the fortified church. During the time of the fortified church building around 1250, Ringscheuert ( Gaden ) were built at the church to store supplies for times of need, which stretch out in a semicircle, following the former coat, along the complex. The fruit box of the Maulbronn Monastery was located within the ring around the church . Records mention a Margaret chapel near Iptingen in 1355 and a nunnery in 1409. The fortified church in Iptingen was still called Stephanuskirche in 1601. The name of the chapel Margaretenkapelle was probably transferred to the parish church around 1611. The master builder Hans Wunderer von Pfaffenhofen was commissioned by Abbot Entenfuß from Maulbronn to expand the church. According to a year above the southern ogival entrance, the works were completed in 1513. The choir and sacristy were added in 1592.

The oldest pieces of equipment include a baptismal font from the 16th and gallery pictures from the 17th century. A classicist organ from 1836, which Andreas Laukhuff from Cannstatt made, was donated by Johannes Huber, who rose from the Iptingen shoemaker to ennobled bank director in France. In 1981 and 2001 the organ was extensively renovated and restored.
