St. Margareth in the hermitage
St. Margareth in der Klause is an originally late Romanesque church in Terlano in South Tyrol , only preserved as a ruin . She became St. Consecrated Margaret of Antioch . The nickname refers to the nearby Terlaner Klause, a road barrier built by Meinhard II , which gave the name of today's Terlaner district Klaus .
history
The first mention is in 1371 as " sancta Margareta de torrente iurisdiccionis Noue domus " (in the court of Neuhaus ), followed by a mention from 1391 as " St. Margaret on the Lan ". Around 1595 the church was screwed up as high as a man . When a benefit was donated for the Terlan parish church , part of the obligations was reading three masses a month in St. Margareth. In 1785 the benefice was abolished as part of the Josephine church reform and the church was subsequently closed.
The church was already in ruins at the beginning of the 20th century . Today only remnants of the tower, the Gothic choir and the nave walls remain. The remains of St. Margareth have been a listed building since 1979.
