Church of the Assumption of Mary in Eyll

The St. Maria Himmelfahrt church is located in the Kamp-Lintfort district of Eyll , at the foot of the Eyller mountain . It is a late Gothic single nave nave with a ribbed vault and a polygonal choir. It is consecrated to the Mother of God and entered as an architectural monument in the monument list of the city of Kamp-Lintfort (No. 10). Next to her is the house of a former restaurant with the adjoining former barn. Right next to it is the cemetery with the graves of the family members of the former Lords of Eyll and the current owners of Eerde.

history

The chapel, built between 1430 and 1432 as a simple house of prayer, which belonged to the Eyll House , was once the palace chapel of the Lords of Eyll, who also hired a parish rector in 1490 . In 1835 it was raised to the parish church for the Catholic population of Rayen , Eyll and parts of Vluynbusch and Wickrath.

Furnishing

During the restoration in the 1980s, old ceiling paintings were discovered and recognized as works by the famous Dutch church painter Friedrich Stummel . The stained glass windows that adorn the choir room together with the rose window by an unknown old master were designed based on the painter's templates .

The chapel houses a sandstone tombstone of the knight von Pallandt († March 2, 1605) in the anteroom . It was restored around 20 years ago. A wood-carved statue of St. Martin is on the right wall inside the church.
