St. Maria (Reichenbach)
The field chapel St. Maria is a field chapel consecrated to the Mother of God Maria , which is located about 500 meters southwest of the center of the Upper Franconian community Reichenbach .
history
The chapel was commissioned by Reichenbach landlord Johann Georg Neubauer in 1824. Although the construction was completed in 1826, Georg Greim, pastor of the nearby town of Teuschnitz , did not consecrate it until ten years later in December 1836; the reason for this delay is not known. After the Neubauer family died out, the chapel was auctioned off in 1838 and presumably passed into the possession of the Schnappauf family together with the Neubauer family's farm and restaurant .
In 1943, extensive repair work was carried out, especially in the outside area of the chapel, after the condition of the building had deteriorated continuously due to neglect and wind and weather. The interior was also restored in the mid-1970s.
In 2006, the chapel , which is now under monument protection , was again painstakingly restored and consecrated on September 17, 2006 by Ludwig Schick , Archbishop of Bamberg .
Architecture and equipment
The simple, rectangular, white plastered hall church with a three-eighth end on the altar side is particularly noticeable due to the two small towers that grow out of the gable roof . The roof and towers are covered with black slate .
The modest furnishings are in the taste of the baroque .
