St. Martin is a Catholic branch church in the district of Starnberg and in the diocese of Augsburg . The church is a landmark of Herrsching am Ammersee and is located on a hill surrounded by the Kienbach .
history
The church of St. Martin was first mentioned in 1165, but no exact dates are known about the church's construction. It is also believed that it was the own church of the first settler Horskeo and his clan.
The hall with the choir is from the late Gothic period . At the pulpit on the north wall you can see flat carvings from the Renaissance from the year 1600. The bell tower was built in 1687 at the request of the dean Johann Geyer to the clergy.
The baroque remodeling of the interior was made between 1762 and 1764. There are twelve apostle statuettes from the 17th century on the choir walls. The main interior and the choir, which was created by a “Kistler” from Dießen, date from the first half of the 18th century . The two side altars of the same type date from the middle of the 18th century. On the choir walls there are twelve apostles statuettes from the 17th century.
