In a document from the Lords of Kranichfeld from 1317 to the Ichtershausen monastery and a letter of renunciation from 1326, the Kranichfelder refer to the patronage rights of the church in Eischleben, from which the existence of a church in the village emerges.

The previous building was a wooden church . Around the year 1448 the church was renovated in the late Romanesque style .

The Thirty Years' War caused greater damage. The church was "completely polished" by the Hatzfeld soldiers in 1642.

After the fall of the Wall , the church was given the name St. Matthias in 2000 on the occasion of a festive service .

In 2003 the bells were given oak yokes instead of the steel yokes.

In 2008 extensive renovation work began with own funds and funds. The roof was re-covered with slate .
