The St. Mechtern Church is a Catholic church building in Cologne-Ehrenfeld . It is in the tradition of the Mechtern Martyrs Church in Cologne , which is based on the legend of the Thebaic Legion .

Description and equipment

Today's parish church was built in 1954 according to plans by the architect Rudolf Schwarz . The previous building, a neo-Romanesque domed basilica by the architect Eduard Endler from 1909, was largely destroyed in the Second World War. Only the tower ground floor, which is used as a chapel room, has been preserved. The tower stump and the parsonage next to the church from 1914/15 are under monument protection .

The bell of St. Mechtern consists of 3 bronze bells, two of which were cast after the Second World War.
