St. Medardus is a Roman Catholic church in Bergheim - Auenheim ( Rhein-Erft-Kreis ) in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

A church in Auenheim was mentioned for the first time in 1187. In 1280 the patronage of the Kamp Monastery and the Brauweiler Abbey was transferred to the Cologne Teutonic Order Commander St. Katharina . In 1282 Auenheim was named as a separate parish and was also mentioned in the Liber valoris around 1300.

Around 1500 a new late Gothic tower was added to the Romanesque church of St. Medardus . In the basement, the tower shows the alternation of tuff and brick bands typical for the region, such as St. Cosmas and Damian in Glesch or St. Martinus in Nettesheim . The ruinous condition of the nave made its simple, single-aisle new building with a three-sided choir closure necessary at the expense of the Teutonic Order. The new building was also carried out alternating between tuff and brick bands. In the tower there is a bronze bell from 1521.
