St. Cosmas and Damian (Glesch)
The Catholic parish church of St. Cosmas and Damian is a listed church building in Glesch , a district of the city of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The church was a branch of St. Pankratius in Paffendorf until 1802 ; in 1837 it was elevated to a parish . The building is a three-aisled , cross-vaulted brick hall with tuff ribbons . The three western nave bays and the retracted, two-storey western tower come from a predecessor church built in 1493 and extended by the side aisles in 1553. The higher neo-Gothic eastern parts were added in 1887 using an adapted construction method. Inside, only the western Langjoch is originally preserved. The two adjacent yokes are neo-Gothic.
