The village church of St. Michael is in the Göllingen district of the Kyffhäuserland community in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia .

history

In 1722 the church was built in the vicinity of the Göllingen monastery on a rectangular floor plan. In 1736 the square west tower was added.

From 1766 to 1768, the organ builder Hartung from Schlossvippach built the organ that the organ builder Großmann from Frankenhausen built. It was renovated in 1857 by the organ builder Strobel from Frankenhausen.

In 1834 three bells were installed. The nave was renovated in 1842 and also in 1883 on the occasion of the Luther anniversary .

In 1912 the parish replaced the weather vane . In the following year the interior was painted.

In 1915 the church received a lighting system and a tower clock . In 1917 the bells were melted down for war purposes. There were 2,745 marks for it.

From June 20 to 21, 1950, lightning struck. The church tower burned down. The bells were destroyed, as were the bellows and the tower clock. The new bells were installed on March 3, 1951 and Regional Bishop Moritz Mitzenheim inaugurated the church tower and bells on October 22, 1951. The parish later installed the lightning protection system .

In 1960 the electrical bell system was installed and in 1972 the winter church was consecrated .

In 1985 repairs were made to the tower slate and the roof structure . The work took several years, as tie rods and interior fittings had to be included in the renovation .

After the fall of the Wall , the maintenance and repair work was intensified. In 2009 the church roof was re-covered with the help of donations.
