history

An aircraft hangar from Durach served as the emergency church , which was consecrated by the diocesan bishop in 1951 in honor of St. Michael . In 1956 St. Michael was raised to the status of a city parish.

The foundation stone for the second new church in Kempten was laid in 1964. The plans for the new Michaelskirche in the new building area in the north of the city come from Georg Bartelt. The church was consecrated with 630 seats for the 4,000 parishioners in 1966. Two years later, the organ was consecrated and in 1972 the Kolping and parish hall was built. In 1975 the number of parish members fell to 3500, caused by a split in the parish of St. Hedwig .

In 2012 the corroded clockwork was repaired with the help of donations.
