St. Nikolai

The Protestant town church St. Nikolaus is located in the small town of Wurzbach in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia and belongs to the Schleiz parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

In 1688, the church fell victim to a fire and was immediately rebuilt and rededicated. Barely a hundred years later, during the fire on August 18, 1757, this new church, including bells , 71 houses and 41 barns, fell victim to the flames. It was also erected immediately and inaugurated on October 1, 1763.

The organ created Johann Gottlob Trampeli Silbermann shear type for 900 Reichstaler (60,000 euros).

The renovation of the church in 2001 cost a total of 78,000 euros.

During the GDR era , the later regional bishop Werner Leich was pastor in Wurzbach from 1954 to 1969. He gave the sermon for the 250th anniversary of the Kirchweih in Wurzbach .

Since the renovation of the church after the political change , organ concerts have been held with the instrument, which counts 1,400 pipes , in addition to church events .
