history

In 1939, self-defense forces and the Red Army fought hard on the Manchurian-Mongolian border with the Soviet Union . On April 13, 1941, a Japanese-Soviet neutrality pact was signed in Moscow . The two governments had agreed on January 20, 1925 in a treaty to establish diplomatic relations and to extend the 1905 Treaty of Portsmouth . In two additional protocols to this treaty, Japan had agreed to withdraw its troops from the part of Sakhalin belonging to northern Russia, while concessions for the exploitation and development of mineral oil and for the production of coal were granted in this area .
