The catholic parish church St. Nikolaus is a church building in Germete , a district of Warburg in the district of Höxter , North Rhine-Westphalia .

History and architecture

The parish was first mentioned in 1450 in the directory of the archdeaconate Warburg. On the basis of the Romanesque church tower from the first half of the 13th century, however, it has been discovered that there was already a branch church at that time, which either belonged to the parish of St. Peter auf der Hüffert or to the parish of Osdagessen .

The base of the tower was reinforced in 1722 and heightened in 1780. Today it is a listed building . A new building of the nave, also begun in 1780, had to be interrupted due to a major fire in the same year and was not continued until 1782. The consecration took place in 1788. The church was built in the baroque style.

In 1970 the baroque building was demolished and the tower renovated. The foundation stone for the third church was laid in 1971 and was completed in 1973. The building was built according to plans by Johannes Reuter ; its outer walls are matched to the masonry of the tower, which consists of rubble stones, through the use of red sandstone.

In 1979 the old pictures and sculptures were put back in the church, and in 1981 they were consecrated . A comprehensive renovation took place in 2004, with the chancel being redesigned, an organ stage built and the entrance area lengthened.
