The Protestant village church St. Nikolaus is in the Goßwitz district of the Unterwellenborn community in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

history

The first church in Goßwitz was consecrated in 1534 and renovated in 1668 to repair the damage caused by the Thirty Years' War . The church was located near today's village pond.

Around 1715, a new church was built on the site of the demolished church. It only stood for 150 years and had to be demolished because it was dilapidated.

The current church was built in neo-Romanesque style on a hill above the village. The foundation stone was laid on October 20, 1877. The inauguration took place on October 18, 1881. The church has been named after St. Nicholas since time immemorial .

The church has an apse in which the sanctuary is located. The pulpit is attached to the side of the transition from the apse to the church area. There is also a gallery where the organ of the company Eifert is. In the church tower a bronze hanging bell .
