history

The church on the outskirts in an elevated position, which originally also served as a watch and signal station, was first mentioned in 1498. In 1793 it was rebuilt. In 1977 the church was damaged by lightning strikes and restored.

On January 4, 1978, in the early hours of the morning (from 3:00 a.m.), the church burned down to the outer walls. The inventory was destroyed, including the Gothic carved altar from 1520, the font from the 16th century and the pulpit from 1680. Only the western annex from the 19th century with the bell tower and the two bells have been preserved.

Under the conditions of the GDR , only a new building with a much flatter roof, a small roof turret and a flat ceiling instead of the previous vaulted ceiling was possible. In 1984 the church was rededicated. A Gothic carved altar (with a stone plate for the altar table) and a pulpit were borrowed from Nottleben , whose church had become ruinous and the roof was lost . The moisture-damaged Nottleben Altarpiece (leaky roof) was extensively restored in the church workshops in Erfurt in the 1970s and initially stored. He has twelve figures of saints: (left wing: Georg, Magdalena, an unknown deacon - middle section: Bartholomäus, Barbara, Petrus, Paulus, Katharina and Andreas - right wing: unknown person, Magdalena and unknown bishop).
