St. Peter at Revelstoke

St. Peter's (also: Revelstoke's Pioneer Church ; Revelstokes Pionierkirche ) is a church building of the Anglican Church of Canada in the Canadian city of Revelstoke (province of British Columbia ). It is the only surviving pioneer church in the city.

history

Anglican services were first held in Revelstoke in April 1885 at the Columbia House Hotel by the area missionary Henry Irving, better known as Father Pat . In 1896 a parish church was built in Revelstoke with St. Peter. It took up the St. Peters patronage of the medieval church of Revelstoke in the English county of Devon . On September 4, 1898, the church was consecrated by the Anglican bishop. An important supporter of the parish at the time was Edward Baring, 1st Baron Revelstoke.

A bell has been in the church tower since 1900, it bears the inscription: O ye mountains and hills, Bless ye the Lord, Alleluia! . In 1931 the community hall was added.

Due to the decline in parishioners, St. Peter's no longer has its own pastor since 2010, but is now provided for by Salmon Arm .
