St. Peter (Törten)
The Church of St. Peter is a Protestant church in the south of the city of Dessau-Roßlau in Saxony-Anhalt .
history
St. Peter in the former village of Törten , built on a hill and now part of Dessau-Roßlau, is considered the oldest church in Dessau. The church was first mentioned in 1228, but its structural fabric is older. At that time, Törten was a fishing village on the Mulde . Hence, Saint Peter became the patron saint of the church.
Monks from Nienburg (Saale) built a small Romanesque church here, the bell of which dates from the 12th century.
On March 7, 1945, the church was almost completely destroyed by an air mine. The cemetery chapel and the rectory were badly damaged. After the war, the congregation rebuilt the church; In 1953 the church was consecrated again.
