The three bells in the roof turret

In 1671 the church was built in its current form, followed by the parsonage belonging to it in 1679, which is still preserved in its former form. After being destroyed by a fire, it was extended by an annex in 1812 and returned to its intended use in 1816.

On the day of prayer in 1870, Pastor Paulin Gschwind refrained from proclaiming the newly adopted papal dogmas , which were adopted at the First Vatican Council , while reading the pastoral letter in the mass . For that he was held responsible. The reaction to the outspoken excommunication of the pastor was that the assembly of the parish rejected the papal dogmas with 238: 2 votes.

In 1872 the church was relieved of its function as a common village church for all Catholics from Starrkirch , Wil and Dulliken . After the religious split, it functioned as a place of worship for the Christian Catholic parish.

In 1967 the church was completely renovated. In 1977 the small parish hall became a center for various parish activities. In 1989 the complete interior renovation of the rectory was carried out, during which the building was partially built with a cellar. In 1995 colored glass windows were used in the church, designed by Sr. M. Raphaela Bürgi and manufactured by the Engeler glass studio in Andwil . In 2008 another interior renovation was carried out.
