The church

The St. Peter and Paul Church is in the municipality of Gumperda in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Orlamünde in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

location

The medieval village church is centrally located in the village.

history

Parts of the ground floor date from the 12th century. In the 15th century that was the house of God to the fortified church expanded. The choir tower was also raised .

Nave

In the 18th century the nave was raised and galleries were built . 1975–1977 the galleries were removed except for the organ . The house of God still has the face created back then today.

particularities

The church has a high Gothic winged altar and two Romanesque lintels from the 12th century. On the north side the lintel is depicted with a flower ornament and on the south side in the anteroom are Adam and Eve and their expulsion from paradise with a hare at the foot of the tree of life . This relief is considered to be of great age.
