St. Peter and Paul

The parish church of St. Peter and Paul is a Catholic parish church in Laupheim .

Location and description

The church is consecrated to the apostles Peter and Paul and is one of four places of worship of the Catholic parish Saint Peter and Paul in Laupheim, along with the Marienkirche, the pilgrimage and cemetery church of St. Leonhard and the Laupheim hospital chapel. It is located on the Kirchberg, above the market square, and, together with the rectory, the Zehntscheuer and a linden tree, forms a baroque building ensemble in the immediate vicinity of Großlaupheim Castle , which houses the Laupheim cultural center and the Museum of the History of Christians and Jews .

The hall building belongs to the early Baroque and was built from 1623 to 1667 by the Italian master builder Martino Barbieri, a relative of Giovanni Domenico Barbieri, who is known for his Eichstätter buildings . The ceiling frescos come from Anton Wenzeslaus Haffe from Dillingen, who also made the frescoes for the churches of St. Martin in Holzheim , St. Sebastian in Holzheim , St. Martin in Pfaffenhofen an der Zusam and St. Michael in Bertoldshofen . The pulpit was designed by Dominikus Hermenegild Herberger. Opposite the pulpit is a painting by Georg Bergmiller, which shows one of the oldest views of the city of Laupheim. The north side altar houses a crescent moon Madonna who was previously at home in Söflingen monastery .
