The St. Petri Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church with an adjacent community center in Uelzen on Osterstrasse. The area of the community includes the eastern part of the district of Ilmenau and Niendorfer Strasse, including the Eschenkamp development area, and has around 4,800 community members.

The church

The church was consecrated on October 2, 1960. The main facade is shaped by an ivy cross, bordered by a relief of thick wooden beams. This idea comes from the Uelzen artist Georg Lipinsky . In 2010, the church roof was equipped with a solar system, all of which is fed into the public grid.

The oldest bell in Uelzen hangs in the bell carrier, which was newly built in 2005 as a roof turret. Originally it was cast in 1605 for the church in Miswalde ( East Prussia , today Myślice, Powiat Morąski ) and came in 1961 to the St. Petri Church in Uelzen.

The path to the church is barrier-free. Inside is a graffito the painter Karl Varnecke illustrating a divine miracle - Petri Fischzug by ( Lk 5,1-11  LUT ) - the dominant eye-catching on the altar wall. The colored glazing in the window of the baptismal font, designed by the Bremen artist Heinz Lilienthal , shows the Trinity of God: creation, redemption, sanctification.

The Hillebrand organ with two manuals and pedal has 23 registers and 1,618 pipes.

Church work

There are numerous community circles and groups, such as B. Choir work or help for needy citizens. The community attaches great importance to an open community hall for people who are “laborious and laden”. The community uses the Gertrudenkapelle at the Ratsteich for devotions, baptisms and weddings.

National attention was paid to the church in connection with the abuse allegations against Marco Weiss , for whose return from Turkey the citizens of the whole place prayed in the church.

Child labor in the mother-child group , in the play area and in the children's and youth choir (singing kids) is very popular.
