history

In 1385 a church was built in Heuraffl for the Paulaner Hermit Order founded by Johann II and Peter II von Rosenberg . It was destroyed in the Hussite Wars . Today's late Gothic church was built in 1523. Since then there have been pilgrimages to Heuraffl. In 1550 the monastery was given up, in 1592 the Cistercians took over the pastoral administration of the monastery Vyšší Brod ( Hohenfurth ). In 1785 Heuraffl was raised to a parish.

From 1883 to 1886 the church and the interior were extensively renewed and renovated.

After 1945 the German-speaking population was expelled and the church furnishings were destroyed by the communists. Only the granite sacrificial box from the 16th century has been preserved. With the construction of the Vltava reservoir in the 1950s, lower-lying districts were removed so that the church is now directly on the lake shore.

After the Velvet Revolution , the church was renovated in 1994/1995 and rededicated on July 17, 1995. The nativity scene was donated by the pastor from Vorderweissenbach, Father Petrus Norbert Mittermüller, who also celebrated the first mass in Heuraffl after the end of communism.
