history

According to the inscription on the north side of the tower, the Gothic church was completed in 1506, probably made of local stone. After the loss of the Upper Church of St. Peter in the Thirty Years' War , Philip and James received their parish status in 1646. Repairs followed in 1654, 1676 and 1684. The nave was built from 1684 to 1686, making it approx. 180 years younger than the tower. A new organ was purchased in 1691 and a larger bell in 1695. Around 1700, the interior with a gallery and pulpit altar (1699/1700) - the latter a work by the Erfurt carver Valentin Ditmar - was redesigned in Baroque style. In 1700 the Polish Queen Katharina Opalińska donated a Dutch ducat for the church on her way through from Bad Ems . In the following years and in 1720, minor and major repairs were made to the church. In 1722/23 the church received a new organ from the workshop of the Erfurt organ builder Franciscus Volckland . Important items of equipment are u. a. is the grave epitaph of Captain Martin Hase (1589) and the tower clock by the Stadtilmer watchmaker Eberhardt from 1798, which still shows the time today. After further repairs had been carried out in 1750, the interior of the church was damaged in 1813 by the fleeing French troops. An easterly lintel of the tower bears the inscription TVRRIS FORTISSIMA NOMEN DOMINI . In 1890 the cemetery was moved from the church to the northern outskirts, old tombstones still bear witness to its former location. The church received the last repairs in 1952, 1979 and 2002 (until today).

The church is a registered cultural monument of Ollendorf. See: List of cultural monuments in Ollendorf .
