The parish church of St. Sebastian in the Heuchelhof district of Würzburg is a parish church of the Catholic deanery of Würzburg-Stadt . The church was built between 1976 and 1977 according to plans by Friedrich Ebert.

history

The Heuchelhof is the youngest and largest district of Würzburg. It was created in the 1960s and accordingly it was shaped in its first construction phases by the high-rise construction of that time. The residential area was initially looked after by the parish of St. Laurentius in Heidingsfeld . In 1971 a separate parish was founded. Rented apartments and later a large round tent served as the worship room. While St. Sebastian was consecrated in 1977 after two years of construction, the Gethsemane Church planned in 1988 could only be built in 1998-2000. At that time the Heuchelhof had approx. 4000 apartments and the population had increased to approx. 12,000 residents.

The consecration ( consecration ) took place on October 22, 1977 by Bishop Josef Stangl . The patronage is that of the martyr Sebastian , the emergency helper against the plague and other epidemics.

Architecture and equipment

The group of buildings with church, parish hall and rectory was built in 1976/77 by the episcopal building authority under the direction of Friedrich Ebert. The exterior is terraced from the tower to the south. While the exterior is characterized by exposed concrete, the interior of the church was made with red bricks. The central area of St. Sebastian is laid out in a square. Like the tower, the choir is vaulted by a barrel roof and has a circular window under the roof. This altar wall was designed by the artist couple Bail with a large mural.

The weekday chapel adjoins the main room. The glass window behind the altar was designed by the artist Carl Clobes .

Others

The founding pastor of the parish and pastor of the parish was Erwin Kuhn (1929–2014) from 1973 to 2001.
