The Catholic Church of St. Simon and Juda on Pallienerstraße in Trier-Pallien was built in 1786 in the late Baroque style. It is currently (2018) the parish church of the parish of Pallien .

Building description

The church was built in 1786 on the site of a previous building. The builder was August Massing. It is an aisle church with a polygonal choir . On the north side there is the staircase to the gallery in a special stair tower with its own hood. The church does not have a tower, but a roof turret just above the organ. The interior furnishings from the time of construction - pulpit, communion bench, confessional and the dining halls of high and celebration altar - are attributed to the carpenter Hans Matthias Propson. The two canteens come from the former side altars. Of the baroque and the neo-Gothic altars that followed, only a few of the figures placed in the church have survived. The church's glass windows were created in 1949 by the Binsfeld company based on designs by Rudolf Schilling.

history

Pallien belonged to the parish of St. Viktor until it was destroyed in 1339, then to the parish Beßlich . There is evidence of a chapel dedicated to Saints Simon and Jude since the 15th century. Since 1803 Pallien belonged to the parish of St. Paulus on the other side of the Moselle. The church was a parish church from 1929 until the construction of the new Maria Königin church in 1960, then a subsidiary church.

Modern use

After the church of Maria Königin, which was in danger of collapsing, was closed and profaned in 2016, St. Simon and Jude is again a parish church in the Euren parish association . It is currently used for around two weekly trade fairs (as of January 2018).
