From the previous church, a late Romanesque choir tower church around 1300, the square tower floors and probably the tympanum above the entrance door have been preserved as remains. In the 15th century the nave was enlarged in the late Gothic style. When the parish church of St. Georg in Oberdolling was rebuilt between 1895 and 1897 , the Catholics of both places used the Unterdolling church, which was expanded by a third to the west in 1892, for Sunday mass. For the construction of the new parish church, the church of Unterdolling also raised pension amounts. In the course of far-reaching changes in the Baroque period, the cross vault in the choir was raised, the windows of the nave were enlarged and the nave was provided with a flat ceiling. In the late 18th century, the tower top collapsed in a storm, but was immediately rebuilt. The last renovation took place in 1996.

Building description

The plaster of the choir tower church with a pitched roof over the five-axis nave is structured in a neo-Romanesque style. The square choir tower is crowned by an octagonal structure with an onion dome . An earlier entrance door can still be seen on the north wall. To the north of the sacristy attached to the tower is a Gothic corner niche , a counterpart to the simpler sacrament house in the choir.

Furnishing

The three altars were built at the end of the 17th century, the angels on the entablature are considered “masterful”. The painting on the main altar shows the martyrdom of St. Stephen. The side altars are said to come from the church in Hagenhill and were erected in St. Stephen's in 1888. The left shows a statue of the Mother of God, the right a figure of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Nazarene style . The stucco pulpit, today without stairs, was created in 1740. On the nave walls are, among other things, former shrine figures, which were carved around 1480 and depict the church patron and St. Laurentius represent. A baroque crucifix (around 1735) hangs on the north wall of the nave . The design of the neo-Gothic Way of the Cross is based on the Nazarene style.

A Romanesque tympanum from the 12th century found in the cemetery was integrated into the neo-Romanesque portal on the west facade ; the symbols shown are "of great rarity".

The last Oberdolling local pastor responsible for Unterdolling was the Episcopal Spiritual Councilor Johann Hundsdorfer (* April 22, 1928; † December 12, 2008). Death notice and death cards hang in a frame in the Unterdollinger Church.
