St. Stephanus in Detmold-Hiddesen

St. Stephanus is a Roman Catholic church in the Detmold district of Hiddesen . It is a branch church of the Heilig Kreuz community and thus belongs to the Detmold pastoral network in the Bielefeld-Lippe dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn . It was created between 1957 and 1958 based on plans by Herman Gehrig .

architecture

The church is located in a residential area and is surrounded by larger open spaces. The floor plan is angular. A large window area defines the street-side gable. A wall surface made of ashlar and shifted to the right rises to the tower, which is crowned by a large cross and accommodates the visible bells under an arch.

Inside, the floor plan becomes smaller and right-angled through the sacristy , confessional room and vestibule . Below the gable roof, concrete girders span the church interior and lead to the altar wall. Its middle section is offset to the rear and is illuminated from the side by two light strips. The sanctuary in front of it is raised by two steps. The stalls are formed from three sides around the block-shaped altar. The deep window surfaces illuminate the interior. They come from Hubert Spierling in 1958.
