The St. Urbanus Catholic Chapel is a listed church building on Bilmer Strasse in Bilme , a district of Ense in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The church was mentioned in 1229 as a property of the St. Georg-Stift in Cologne. The ministry was based on a foundation from the von Galen family. The Vicarie was a memorial foundation. The vicar's sole duty was to read masses for the living and deceased members of the von Galen.

The flat closed hall chapel from the 12th century stands on Gutshof Küppers (former Schultenhof). It was built from hammer right green sandstone .

The west tower is accessed through a simple round arch portal ; the acoustic arcades have set columns. The windows were enlarged to a rectangular shape in 1711. On the north portal is tympanum on consoles with rolls fries . The oak altarpiece was made in the 18th century. A Pietà and the figures of Saints Urbanus and Agatha stand on it .

The bell in the tower was cast around 1200.
