St. Vitus

The village church of St. Vitus is located in the Wülfershausen district of the Osthausen-Wülfershausen community in the Ilm district in Thuringia . It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church Community Association Elxleben-Witzleben in the parish of Arnstadt-Ilmenau of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

This village church of St. Vitus is one of the oldest churches in the state of Thuringia. Construction began in the 9th century. The origin was a chapel with a brick altar and baptismal font .

With the construction of the church tower in the 14th century and the nave in the 15th century, the chapel became a church .

In 1499 Valentin Landenstreich made the carved altar from Saalfeld .

On the south side of the church there is a stone with the year 1586 and the letters WUWLUW carved into it.
