The Wigiberti Church

The Protestant village church of St. Wigiberti is located in the lower village of Altengottern , a district of the Unstrut-Hainich community in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

history

Altengottern developed from two settlement cores in the swampy or wet environment of the Unstrut lowlands into the lower and upper village. In 1539 the townspeople adopted the Evangelical Lutheran faith. Their first pastor was Johann Grießbach from Mühlhausen . In 1641 the village and Altengottern Castle fell victim to the Thirty Years' War . Reconstruction and resettlement began in 1650. From 1692 to 1695, the St. Wigiberti Church was built as a hall building on the site of a previous church.

After the political change

The last renovation took place in 1992 and 1997 with funds from the German Foundation for Monument Protection . The square in front of the municipal administration and the other church has been redesigned. The war memorial of the fallen and missing victims of both world wars in the cemetery has been restored and inaugurated.
